Vintage Eyewear

I have a astigmatism.  I have always worn glasses.  Tragedy struck this last week as I stepped on my glass.  My back up pair is missing and no where to be found.  So I am in the Market for some new to me vintage eyewear.  If only I could look as lovely as Marylin!!!

What to get its so hard to make decisions as I have to shop on ebay to keep it affordable.  We do have a local optical shop that has vintage stock but they charge 200-300 dollars a pair.  I have not paid over 70 dollars for a pair of frames since I started wearing vintage frames so I have a hard time stomaching paying that much.  I have ordered a few pairs off ebay.  I will have to post pictures when new frames arrive and see what all of you think.  I know I am really going to miss the ones that got stepped on.

  1. Being a four-eyes myself, I'm excited to see your new frames!

http://www.allynscura.com/ does all my vintage glasses and I can't say enough nice things about them. Not only do they have gorgeous vintage and repro frames at reasonable prices, they will put your prescription lenses in too, for about $100 on top of the cost of the frames! They will also put your prescription lenses in frames you've purchased elsewhere. I've done it both ways and so far have been completely satisfied. They do this all through the mails so you have to be patient, but I like knowing that someone who works with vintage plastic all day long is putting the glass in my frames. I've got 4 or 5 pair from them and I love them all.

  2. Gabriella I have bought frames from Allyn Scura at festivals but when I asked them some questions on line recently their customer service was so poor I decided not to buy from them.

  3. Oh NO! I'm so sorry to hear that. :( I've just been lucky, I guess.

  4. Have you tried the discount online stores? My sister always gets great, catwing style glasses for practically nothing. She must have a pair for every day of the week. They don't have a specific listing in the catalogues, they're just kind of mixed in with the "modern" frames. Good luck! I hope you find some "Marilyns". :)
